Beautiful mid-century Haig & Haig Scotch whisky decanter embellished in Mexico with an elaborate sterling silver overlay.
The classic Haig & Haig "pinch" bottle is wrapped around the shoulders and sides with pierced and engraved sterling silver floral and foliate decoration, creating a wonderful combination of clear glass and highly detailed Mexican silverwork. The original stepped silver-tone stopper completes the sculptural design.

The glass retains the frosted HAIG & HAIG lettering across the front.
This type of decorative silverwork emerged during an important period in Mexican design. Beginning in the 1930s, Mexico experienced a renaissance in modern silversmithing as workshops and individual artisans developed a distinctive decorative vocabulary combining traditional hand craftsmanship with modern design. By the mid-20th century, Mexican silversmiths were producing not only jewelry but also hollowware, tableware and elaborate silver-overlay objects for an international market.
This decanter is a particularly striking example, transforming an iconic Scottish whisky bottle into a piece of Mexican decorative art and luxury barware.
Approximately 8.5" tall and 5" wide.
Vintage condition with substantial natural tarnish, oxidation, surface wear and scattered finish variation to the silver, all consistent with age. The aged surface has been left unpolished. Please review photographs carefully for condition.
