Wonderful vintage circa-1950s Japanese porcelain “Naughty Nodder” novelty ashtray featuring a reclining blonde pinup lady with removable raised legs and a separate hand fan.
Originally designed so the heat and rising smoke from a cigarette would cause the fan and legs to rock or “nod.” The colorful hand-painted design includes pink trim, floral transfers, turquoise pillow, gold accents, and classic mid-century risqué styling.
Marked on the underside with a partial G. Nov. Co. Japan label and impressed patent wording. The leg insert is also marked T.T., indicating the patented nodder mechanism.
Approximately 5½ inches long based on the ruler shown. Please review photographs for the remaining dimensions.
Condition: Complete with the often-missing removable legs and fan. Good vintage condition with age-related surface wear, light discoloration, small marks, and wear to the painted and gold details. No obvious major chips or cracks were observed in the photographs. The moving action has not been tested with a lit cigarette and is not guaranteed.
