Vintage 1950s Baums Sporting Goods Frigidaire Store 8x10 B&W Photos Lot 2
Vintage lot of two black-and-white gelatin-silver photographs on semi-gloss single-weight photo paper showing light age-related handling and storage wear with mild natural curl to the sheets. Front image surfaces exhibit fine surface scuffing and scattered small handling marks visible in angled light, along with a few short soft bends or ripples near the borders but no tears or paper losses. White borders display slight edge waviness and softly rounded corner tips, and both prints remain clean, flexible, and suitable for handling, display, or framing as loose, unmounted photographs with no mats, mounts, or frames included.
Original vintage 1950s black-and-white gelatin-silver photographs of Baum's sporting goods and appliance store, offered here as a lot of two large-format prints.
One photograph presents a nighttime street view of the Baum's storefront, the bold 'BAUMS' sign set above plate-glass display windows on South Third Street, with interior departments visible through the glass including Guns, Fishing, Archery, and Golf along with a Remington sporting firearms and ammunition display flanked by mannequins in hunting and outdoor clothing.
Closer views of the windows reveal midcentury merchandise ranging from rifles, fishing rods, and archery equipment to televisions, refrigerators, and small appliances, with a vertical 'CYCLA-MATIC' sign, potted plants, and carefully staged mannequins and product groupings conveying a classic postwar department-store advertising aesthetic.
The second photograph depicts the Baum's interior appliance showroom with large Frigidaire refrigerators and ranges aligned along the walls beneath 'FRIGIDAIRE' and 'LAUNDRY' lettered signage, banks of televisions and radios, countertop mixers and percolators, and center islands loaded with cookware, toys, roller skates, balls, and other sporting goods beneath overhead light boxes decorated with photographic lifestyle scenes.
Both photographs are black-and-white gelatin-silver prints on semi-gloss single-weight photo paper with narrow white borders, retaining strong tonal range and sharp detail in the store architecture, signage, and product displays.
Features include midcentury retail and social-history subject matter, advertising-style compositions highlighting Baum's exterior and interior departments, period branding for Remington, Frigidaire and related appliances, and presentation as a loose, unmounted and unframed lot of two original 1950s photographs suitable for display or addition to collections focused on department stores, sporting goods, and American consumer culture.
