Vintage 1940s US Navy WW2 Era (1939-1945) Peacoat w Corduroy-lined PocketsThis authentic Navy peacoat dates from the World War II era based on the tag and the features listed below. It is in excellent condition considering it is over 90 years old! There are no visible moth holes or tears in the outer wool lining. The inner lining is intact with some minor tears by the collar - see last picture. It is wrinkled in some spots but should be able to be smoothed out. There is no smoke odor.
Features of World War II Era Peacoats include:
- Material: Made of thick Kersey wool, designed for extreme durability and warmth at sea. The Navy switched to Melton wool in the 1960s which has a rougher texture.
- Features: The coat can be buttoned in either direction which allowed sailors to block the wind from the direction it was coming from. Later Navy peacoats didn’t have this feature.
- Buttons: Large fouled anchor buttons. This coat was missing a button and two other buttons came loose. I had the missing button added and had the two loose buttons reattached.
- Collar Latch: There is a removable throat/collar latch that buttons across the neck for added warmth.
- Pockets: Warm corduroy-lined pockets
