Vintage 1940s Stuttgart German Leporello Photo Album Pin – Allied Occupation Era Miniature Book Souvenir
Up for your consideration is a rare and wonderfully preserved piece of post-WWII history: an authentic, late-1940s German Leporello miniature photo album mechanical brooch pin representing the historic city of Stuttgart.
Dating strictly to the Allied Occupation era (circa 1945–1949), this high-end mechanical novelty pin was a prized collectible for American GIs stationed in the US Zone of Germany. Stuttgart served as a massive administrative headquarters for the American forces, and local craftsmen created these intricate "secret" photo books specifically as premium keepsakes for soldiers to preserve their deployment memories or mail home to family.
Design Features
Mechanical Book Design: Crafted in a bright, gold-tone metal, this pin is styled like a tiny lidded book with a functional spine hinge.
Front Cover Crest: The face of the book features a bold yellow and black heraldic shield showcasing the iconic prancing horse crest of Stuttgart, beautifully preserved beneath a protective clear window.
10 Panel Accordion Photo Strip: When opened, the book unfolds to reveal a double-sided, 10-panel accordion-fold paper strip containing brilliant, crisp black-and-white miniature photographs of Stuttgart landmarks. Featured sights include the Altes Schloss (Old Castle), Schloss Solitude, the Stuttgart Flughafen (Airport), Wilhelma, and the Staatstheater. The reverses of the photo panels are blank.
Fastener: The book hangs elegantly from a textured gold-tone bar pin featuring a fully functional safety-catch closure.

Condition Report
The gold-tone metal casing remains bright and lustrous with no notable tarnish or plating wear, and the front Stuttgart emblem is flawless. Most importantly, the fragile inner paper accordion strip is completely pristine—free of tears, splits, stains, or creases, which is incredibly rare for paper ephemera of this age. The main spine hinge and rear safety pin are tight, secure, and fully functional. Please note a mechanical condition detail: while the side latch arm is intact and moves freely, the tiny metal ball anchor it snaps over on the side of the casing is missing, meaning the book cover does not lock tightly closed. Please review the high-resolution photographs provided to evaluate the exact cosmetic condition.
