Vintage 1940s Berchtesgaden German Leporello Photo Album Pin – Allied Occupation Era Tinted Miniature Book Souvenir with Leonar Watermark
Up for your consideration is a rare, beautifully preserved piece of post-WWII ephemera: an authentic, late-1940s German Leporello miniature photo album mechanical brooch pin representing the historic Alpine region of Berchtesgaden.
Dating strictly to the Allied Occupation era (circa 1945–1949), this premium mechanical novelty pin was an elite keepsake for American GIs stationed in the US Zone of Bavaria. Berchtesgaden and the surrounding mountains served as a premier recreation hub for US troops, who purchased these \"secret\" photo books to document their travels or mail home to family.
Design Features
Mechanical Book Design: Finished in a bright, lustrous gold-tone metal, this pin is designed as a miniature lidded book with a fully functional spine hinge.
Front Cover Artwork: Features a vivid, hand-tinted illustration of a brilliant blue Alpine Gentian blossom, safely preserved beneath a clear protective window above a crisp \"Berchtesgaden\" banner.
10 Panel Tinted Photo Strip: The book unfolds to reveal a 10-panel accordion-fold photo strip showcasing stunning, early photo-lithograph tinted views of local landmarks. Views include Berchtesgaden, the Kehlsteinhaus (the famous Eagle\'s Nest at 1836m), Königssee, St. Bartholomä church, Kurgarten, Hochkalter, Jennerbahn, Maria Gern, and Ramsau.
Authentic Leonar Watermark: The reverse side of the pristine paper strip features the genuine, period-correct stamped logo mark of the historic German photographic manufacturer, Leonar.
Fastener: The book is suspended by dual rings from a classic, diamond-textured gold-tone bar pin featuring a fully functional rear safety-catch closure.

Condition Report
This historic mechanical pin is in very good vintage collector\'s condition. The gold-tone metal casing remains remarkably bright, clean, and lustrous with no notable tarnish or plating loss. The front Gentian emblem is crisp and beautiful. Most importantly, the inner paper accordion strip is exceptionally well-preserved—free of tears, splits, or stains, with the colors remaining remarkably warm and distinct. Please note a mechanical condition detail: while the side latch arm is intact and securely hooks over the frame to keep the book closed, the tiny original metal ball anchor snapped over and is missing. The main spine hinge, suspension rings, and rear safety pin are tight and fully functional. Please review the high-resolution photographs provided to evaluate the exact cosmetic condition.
