Item Description:
Up for sale is a fantastic piece of early 20th-century baseball history. This original, vintage 1931 photograph features a 9-man baseball squad donning classic uniforms with arched block-letter \"Warners\" across the chest and matching \"W\" baseball caps.
NH Estate Provenance:
This photograph was acquired directly out of a single-owner estate batch where all other identified team photographs were from New Hampshire. This strongly indicates this \"Warners\" squad is a local New Hampshire town, industrial mill, or independent New England regional league team active during the Great Depression era.
Fascinating Period Details:
• Uniforms & Caps: Distinct matching \"Warners\" jerseys and dark caps featuring a prominent \"M\".
• Vintage Gear: A player near the front is holding a classic, era-accurate crescent-padded split-finger/pancake fielder\'s glove.
• Apparel: Several players and staff are wearing heavy, woolen shawl-collar knit sweaters, indicating chilly New England spring or autumn weather. One gentleman is pictured in a formal shirt and necktie under his sweater, typical of 1930s team managers or coaches.
• Handwritten Backing Note: The backing board of the presentation mat features period-accurate cursive pencil handwriting reading: \"Women\'s ? League (Pennant Winners) Baseball Team 1931 / The summer J. and I saw so many games.\" (Note: While the photo itself depicts an all-male team, it was clearly kept by a dedicated baseball-loving couple to commemorate their historic 1931 baseball summer).
Condition:
The photo itself is in excellent vintage condition with sharp contrast and great facial clarity. It measures approximately 5x7 inches. It remains housed on/inside its original period cardboard presentation matting. The cardboard matting shows some typical light wear, edge chipping, and staining consistent with its ~95-year age, preserving its authentic antique charm. Please review all listing photos with the tape measure for exact condition and dimensions.
