Unusual large vintage pottery sculpture depicting an elaborately dressed seated ceremonial figure holding a large stylized bird, possibly a parrot or macaw.Standing approximately 18 inches tall, this is an impressive display piece with extensive modeled and incised decoration. The figure features a stepped ceremonial headdress decorated with bird imagery, large circular ear ornaments, a beaded necklace, expressive facial features and elaborate incised decoration across the chest.The large bird resting across the figure’s lap is particularly striking, with a prominent curved beak, raised crest/plume and deeply incised geometric feather decoration.The sculpture has an attractive aged surface with earthy terracotta red, cream, brown and dark coloration. Extensive surface wear and pigment loss contribute to its aged appearance.Approximate measurements:
