This listing is for the most eye catching black kitty cat! Following the historic May 18, 1980, eruption of Mount St. Helens-- which dumped 2 to 3 inches of gritty gray ash across the Yakima Valley--local entrepreneurs and artisans collected the fallen volcanic material. Companies like Stratus used the ash to cast small collectible souvenirs and figurines (such as dogs, bears, and other animals). These pieces typically featured a distinct textured, matte-gray or dark green finish and were stamped or labeled with the maker\'s mark denoting their origin in Yakima.
This kitty was made by Stratus. Although he isnt marked, I have found 1 just like this one that was clearly marked. He is black with beautiful gold streaks. Measuring approximately 13\" tall he is noticeable once hung on the wall. No repairs that I can find. There are a couple very minor nicks on one edge (pictured). He has a very sturdy hanger.
