Vietnam War 105mm Shell Vase Pair Named Presentation Col Hanket Trench Art For Sale

Rare matched pair of Vietnam War trench art vases, hand-fashioned from 105mm M14 artillery shell casings (base stamped \"105 MM M14, LOT IVI-I-51, 1968\"). Each vase is engraved \"A SHELL FIRED IN DEFENSE OF DONG TAM BASE\" with specific 1969 dates (23 Feb and 26 Mar 1969), and both are engraved: \"PRESENTED TO COLONEL ARTHUR P. HANKET FROM THE OFFICERS AND MEN OF THE SUPPORT COMMAND 9TH INF DIV, 15 AUG 1969.\"

Each vase bears a different enameled unit crest medallion — one appears to be a support/service command insignia, the other the 9th Infantry Division\'s distinctive octofoil unit crest in red/white/blue enamel. Brass has a naturally aged, mottled patina throughout with verdigris spotting consistent with age — untouched, uncleaned original condition. One vase has a visible hairline crack at the waist (see photos); the other is solid.

A well-documented, named combat presentation piece tying directly to the defense of Dong Tam Base during the Vietnam War — an excellent research piece for militaria and Vietnam War collectors.
