(which stood for our new thread)Background: Company began in Paisley, Scotland in 1755. Theyinvented a way of twisting strands of cottontogether to substitute for silk (that was unavailable due to the French blockadeof Great Britain). They expanded to the United States in 1869, opening in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. The acquired the Clark Company in 1896 and expanded into their factories in Newark, New Jersey.
