The interior lid features a large original Red Star label in red and gold with wording including “Long Filler,” “Hand Made,” “Cuban Style,” “Guaranteed Single Binder,” and “Sweet and Pure.” The box also retains its original Red Star exterior graphics, “Specials” paper trim, portions of the original federal cigar tax stamp, factory inspection markings, and St. Louis union label.
This is a neat piece of early St. Louis tobacciana with great regional appeal. The strong red star graphics, factory information, and surviving tax/union labels give it more character than a typical generic cigar box.
Condition:
This box shows substantial age and storage wear, including clear water staining and discoloration, especially to the interior bottom and portions of the exterior. There is paper loss, edge wear, surface staining, soiling, worn corners, and deterioration to some of the original paper covering and labels. The lid remains attached and opens properly. Despite the condition issues, the main interior Red Star label remains bright, legible, and visually impressive, and the factory markings on the underside remain clear.
