This Vintage Royal Doulton Figurine "Lady Charmian" (HN 1949) is a charming figure featuring traditional English, Retro-Victorian style, a Leslie Harradine design that has his characteristic movement and grace, and beautifully hand-painted details. Just look at her face!! Standing 8.1inches tall and 6.0 inches wide, this retired Royal Doulton figurine depicts a graceful, pensive Victorian-era woman. She wears a voluminous coral-pink/red crinoline gown, a rich green cloak/shawl, a matching bonnet, and a distinct black ribbon choker around her neck. In one hand, she holds a basket overflowing with freshly cut pink and yellow roses, while her other hand gently holds up a single yellow bloom for closer inspection.Designed by Leslie Harradine, "Lady Charmian" was part of "Harradine Classics" when this figurine was crafted in the 1940's, but we now group it in the "Pretty Ladies Collection."Made of bone china in the United Kingdom between its introduction in 1940 and the 1949 change in handwritten information changes, this collectible sculpture is a must-have for any enthusiast of vintage decor or any collector of importantRoyal Doulton pieces.
As the condition statement and the photographs attest, thisVintage Royal Doulton Figurine "Lady Charmian" (HN 1949) is in Very Good, but not ExcellentPre-Owned Condition.NO cracks, NO crazing, NO loss of color or glaze except for one spot on the back of the lady's dress. NO scratches or stains. Minimal shelf wear on the dry foot. Backstamp: Royal Doulton Crown and Lion with both "Made in England" & "England" in Green Ink/ "Lady Charmian." Handwritten in green paint: "HN 1949." The Artist Initials "KL" are handwritten in brown paint. All hallmarks are consistent with production between the piece's introduction in 1940 and 1949 when Royal Doulton ended the green or brown handwritten information. FLAWS: 1) There are three spots on the back of the lady's dress where the coral pink dress paint has worn, probably from handling (SEE the last two photos in the listing for closeups). 2) There is a chip in one petal of the single yellow rose (SEE the next-to-the-last photo for a closeup). The basket roses are undamaged but we do believe the single rose has one chipped petal.
