This vintage ironwood duck sculpture was hand-carved by a Seri artisan in Sonora, Mexico during the mid-century modern period (between the 1960s and 1980s).
It was crafted from a single solid piece of ironwood, a dense, heavy hardwood native to the Sonoran Desert regions of Mexico and the Southwestern United States.
Ironwood pieces are easily recognizable by their smooth, polished surfaces, and rich dark brown grain with deep reddish or black streaks.
