Authentic Vintage 1980s Zuni Pueblo Antler Altar Doll / Maiden Fetish
Up for sale is an authentic, beautifully hand-carved Native American Zuni fetish figure created by recognized tribal artist Pernell Laate (Zuni, 1953–2008). Because the artist passed away in 2008, his highly sought-after carvings are entirely finite and highly collectible. This piece features his hand-scribed "PX" hallmark incised directly into the valley of the base between the feet (Faded, but it's present).
Carved from a single piece of natural deer or elk antler, this 1980s figure depicts a traditional long-hair maiden or altar priest. It showcases a beautifully minimalist face and fine incised vertical hair lines. The midsection is adorned with a wrapped offering bundle featuring an agate or shell shard point alongside inset genuine turquoise and red coral beads. A magnificent cluster of natural dark feathers is securely tied to the reverse side.
The bottom base displays a clean contrast between the dense outer antler wall and the porous inner bone matrix. It also features a faint handwritten vintage shop price mark ($45) from its original estate or shop acquisition.
