VTG 30s Royal Doulton Porcelain Serjeant Buzfuz Charles Dickens Small Toby Jug For Sale

Known for his entertaining role in Charles Dicken’s “Pickwick Papers,” the designers Leslie Harradine and Harry Fenton beautifully capture Serjeant Fuzbuz mid-sentence as he calls a witness to the stand or perhaps comically berates the one already sitting in the box.Full of pomp, circumstance and personality, this particular Royal Doulton Toby jug features the name embossed around backside near the bottom. Made from fine bone china, the jug was originally issued in 1938; I believe the “A” on the bottom seal indicates this particular jug was part of the first run.Royal Doulton produced approximately 600 different Toby jugs inspired by characters from legend, history or literature. Two or three sizes of most designs were produced—a miniature, a small and a large jug. This example is the small size (approx. 3.25” tall), with a pour spot positioned at the top of the face.Would make a wonderful gift for the Charles Dickens fan, your favorite Anglophile, a lawyer, or anyone who loves a good conversation piece with a bit of history. And a series of Toby jugs like this piece would definitely add instant authenticity to a pub-themed man cave or an English professor’s office alike.Condition: no chips, cracks or crazing. Hallmarked with Royal Doulton England stamp in dark green and numbered. Please see all photos for close-ups and details. If this is a gift for someone, please let me know! I\'d be happy to include a personalized message from you.
