Evansville’s basketball program gained national prominence under legendary coach Arad McCutchan, who led the Aces to NCAA College Division (later Division II) national championships in 1959, ’60, ’64, ’65 and ’71. The Purple Aces' basketball team won the first of its five college-division national championships and featured some of the most recognizable names in school history, including Hall of Fame coach Arad McCutchan, Big Ed Smallwood, Hugh Ahlering, Harold and Clyde Cox, Larry Erwin, P.M. Sanders and Dale Wise.

Little History:
The University of Evansville (UE) was
founded in 1854 as the Moores Hill Male and Female Collegiate Institute in Moores Hill, Indiana.
It is a private institution affiliated with the United Methodist Church.
Key Historical Milestones Founding and Early Years (1854-1917): Established on February 10, 1854, due to the efforts of John C. Moore, the institution began classes on September 9, 1856, as one of the earliest co-educational colleges in the U.S.. It was renamed Moores Hill College in 1887.
Move to Evansville (1919): In 1917, businessman George Clifford advocated moving the college to Evansville, the only major Indiana city without an accredited college. With community support and funding, the college relocated and reopened as Evansville College in 1919.
University Status (1967): After growth, the institution was incorporated as the University of Evansville by the Indiana legislature on February 17, 1967.
Significant Events and Programs:
Harlaxton College: UE's satellite campus, Harlaxton College in England, was established in the 1960s as a study abroad program.
1977 Plane Crash: A tragic plane crash on December 13, 1977, resulted in the deaths of 24 members of the basketball team and staff.
