Very vintage waitress uniform from the “world famous” Hess’s Department Store/ Patio Restaurant, formerly located on Hamilton Street in Allentown, PA.
This is truly a piece of Allentown and Hess’s history! I believe it is from the 1960s/ 1970s, but possibly earlier.
This is from way before they replaced them with the waitress uniforms with the blue accents.
It is wrinkled from storage, a bit yellowed and faded with age, but the famous Hess’s script branding of red, blue, and green are still pretty vibrant. The seam is slightly coming apart in the back waistline, and there is a (coffee?)
stain by the bottom left hem.
It truly looks as if the waitress left her shift after a day of serving those huge Patio meals and “mile high” strawberry pie and hung it up in the closet to be discovered again today!
I imagine that it can be washed to remove the stain and yellowing, but I wanted to keep it in its original form while it was in my collection.
I would say that it’s in fair-good used condition, but good considering its age.
The brand is Angelica, and it’s a size 38. It has buttons and pockets. Please message me with any questions, and I will do my best to answer. I practically grew up at Hess’s back in the 70s and 80s, (my mom adored Hess’s and The Patio) and my aunt was a longtime Patio waitress.
So many Lehigh Valley families have wonderful memories of that special place and time. There will never be another Hess’s and Patio.
