VERY NICE LARGE ANTIQUE DEEP CARVED BLACK FOREST 3 BIRD TRADITIONAL CUCKOO CLOCK For Sale

This is an outstanding find of a large, hand crafted traditional cuckoo clock that was created about 70 years ago in the Black Forest of \"Germany\" by the \"Cuckoo Clock Manufacturing Company.\" Actually, the Cuckoo Clock Manufacturing Company did a great deal to popularize the modern Cuckoo Clock since they were quick to organize after WWII and did all they could to get one of their fine quality clocks into the hands of GI\'s returning home from the war. My Father brought one home and I remember it to this day. This is a stunning old clock that is carved entirely of cured and aged Linden wood which is grown nearly exclusively at certain altitudes of the Black Forest. The attention to detail in the thick,wavy, and deep carvings is very nice and it sports a remarkable dark mahogany finish too; very nice! The front isadorned with five, very large, heavily carved wood grape leaves and grape vines too. There is a deeply carved wooden bird perched on the grape vine branches to the left of the dial and a larger twin is perched to the right. And there is an even larger carved bird at the very top of the case looking as though he\'s ready to take flight. The dial has a black backdrop and features raised woodtone Roman numeralsto mark the hours and a pair of matching, fancy hands to point out the time. The woodenback is secured with a metal latch and removes to allow access to themechanical movement inside the case created by \"Badufa.\" It bears the Badufa name and Germany point of origin. A weight driven movement simplymeans that the chains need to be pulled occasionally to wind the clock, chimes, and cuckoo activity. The tall wooden bellow or whistle tubes areintact and thetops look good and make good sound too! At the bottom of each hour, the small woodendoor above the dial opens and a colorful bird stands in thedoorway. He gives off a single cuckoo sound in tandem with a coiled chimeinside the case before retreating back inside the clock, closing the doorbehind him. The bird returns at the top of the hour and correctly cuckoos and chimesthe current number of hours before going back inside the clock and closing the door; absolutely fascinating! Theclock works quite well here, keeps good time, and cuckoos and chimes as it should. Keep in mind that this is an old clock, not a new one and we don\'tknow the service history. It does show signs of past maintenance but nonetheless, it is possible that some adjustments or service will be necessary once the clock arrives at its new home. We always recommend to ourclock customers to service their antique or vintage clocks at least once everythree years. Doing so will turn a classic like this one into a family heirloomin years to come. I\'ve looked the clock over fairly well and can\'t find much in the way of wear at all, no damage, and no missing parts. It is amazing to look at, listen to, and is just gorgeous on display! It is an impressiveclock and equally so in size too measuring about 13\" high (not counting the weights orpendulum), about 6\" at its deepest point, and about 9\" across the top. The clock comes complete as shown with two sets ofattached metal chains, a wooden, hand carved grape leaf pendulum, and two heavypinecone shaped metal weights. This clock is a collection all by itself and iscertain to attract a great deal of attention from guests in your home, office,or wherever it is that you care to showcase a beautiful Black Forest timepiece. offer with confidence.
