For sale is a beautiful late 19th century to early 20th century Austrian cold painted bronze sculpture of a rare and unusual form.
This piece is unmarked as far as we can tell. Many of these Austrian bronze sculpture artists delegated their designs to various foundaries throughout Vienna and the greater Austria areas for casting.
This bronze features what looks like a small bird resting on the root end of a turnip like root vegetable. We are unsure because the scale of the bird to the root vegetable would suggest a very, very large root vegetable of some sort in Austria.
The smallest bird in Austria is the Goldcrest, but this doesn't have the signature yellow on top of its head. So we are unsure of the Bird species.
The small bird pivots to the left and right. Not sure if it does that as intended, but you can pivot it.
Absolutely wonderful piece. And a very rare and unusual form Austrian Vienna bronze that we've never seen before.
In our opinion, it's probably one of the earlier ones. Late 19th century. But we are unsure
