Uniontown PA Summit Hotel US 40 National Highway Vintage Postcard Artvue: $10.00
Vintage Postcard – Summit Hotel, Uniontown, PA Black-and-white postcard captioned \"Summit Hotel on National Highway U.S. 40. East of Uniontown, Pa.\" The view shows the hotel\'s three-story Mission-style center block with a curved parapet gable lettered \"Summit Hotel,\" flanked by two square towers and wrapped in long columned porches. A curving drive, lawns, flower beds, lamp posts, a flagpole, and patio umbrellas fill the foreground, with the wooded ridge rising behind. The Summit Hotel opened in 1907, built by a company of Uniontown businessmen as a mountain resort on the old National Road, and it was later visited by Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, and Harvey Firestone. The hotel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and still operates today as the Historic Summit Inn. Published by the Artvue Post Card Co., 225 Fifth Ave., New York, N.Y. Unused and unposted, with a pencil notation of \"1954\" on the back. A great piece for collectors of Uniontown and Fayette County, Pennsylvania topographical postcards, National Road and Route 40 roadside history, or historic hotels and resorts.
