U.S. Flag Flown Over The Capitol – Justin Trudeau 2016 State Visit With Certificate

A compelling piece of United States and Canadian political history, this American flag was flown over the United States Capitol on March 10, 2016. The accompanying official Architect of the Capitol certificate states that the flag was flown at the request of Eleanor Holmes Norton, Member of Congress, to commemorate the arrival ceremony honoring Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Sophie Grégoire.
The certificate provides unusually specific provenance, documenting both the exact date and the diplomatic occasion connected with the flag. It bears the Architect of the Capitol designation and the printed signature of Stephen T. Ayers, FAIA, LEED AP, Architect of the Capitol, along with certificate number 2016-015771-002.
This flag was later acquired by noted collector Gerald Gurian and comes from his estate. Gurian was a longtime collector, researcher, and author particularly well known within the Star Trek collecting community for his extensive collection of props, costumes, autographs, production material, and historical memorabilia.
