Item: US Army Pre-WW1 Cavalry "D" Ring Saber Hanger M-1903 Eagle Snap Cartridge Belt
Markings: The number "42" stenciled at the interior fold of the right front. "G67" stenciled at the inner middle back. The initials "C.L." artfully hand marked in black also at the inner middle back. "305" and "MG" centered by the classic "crossed sabers" BOS insignia of the US Cavalry stenciled at the interior fold of the left front, denoting this belt was issued to the Machine Gun Company of the 305th Cavalry Regiment, which existed for only a short time in early 1918. The lack of maker's marks and the smooth pocket bottoms denote manufacture by the famous Russell Manufacturing Co.
Condition: This cartridge belt is in Very Good Condition. Some tearing to the top corner of the interior left sizing end. Some light scattered brownish and dark spot soiling throughout. Fairly crisp khaki canvas construction. Classic 9 pocket design with fully functional "rimless" darkened brass "eagle snap" closures throughout. Fully intact darkened brass "D" ring saber hanger attached to a riveted brown leather tab at the lower left front, distinguishing it as a scarce mounted Cavalry belt. Fully functional large "T" darkened brass front buckle.
