Maker: This lovely antique chocolate pot has an unidentified "Hand Painted Made in Japan" label. Several other chocolate pots on this exact blank that were found online have a Nippon Torri pagoda mark that dates their production to around 1910, but this one does not. Nonetheless, it is likely a Torri pot.
Design: The gracefully shaped pot's unusual pattern features peach colored palm trees against a grey background. An ornately sculpted handle and finial add to its impact.
Condition: It's in excellent overall condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, scratches, stains, repairs or crazing. The interior has darkened somewhat. There are two dark marks at the bottom - shown in the photo with the penny - and many small embedded spots that were created in the manufacturing process and are typical of Japanese porcelain of the late 19th and early 20th century.
Size: The chocolate pot is 7 1/4 inches tall at the tip of the spout and about 10 inches tall at the top of the lid. It's 6 3/4 inches wide between the tip of the spout and the far end of the handle. Together the 2 pieces weigh 1 pound 7 ounces.
Please check all the photos very carefully – they are an important part of the description.
