Up for sale are Two (2) McDonnell Douglas Aircraft photos featuring assembly factory workers with DC-8 plane nose assembly.

Photos seems to show workers on the DC-8 Nose Assemblies in Santa Monica California.

First Photo:

Seems to be taken outside.

Assembly workers under a sign reads: “Ship No. 521 DC8 Nose Assemblies 250th Unit Completed In Santa Monica Congratulations To All!”

Shows scratches and creases ( see closeup pics with glare, to see the wear on photo).

“Light”Crease runs across the center of photo, I say “light because it doesn’t fold the photo in half completely.

Approx. 9-1/2 x 7-1/2”.

Second Photo:

Seems to be taken inside a hanger.

Shows what looks like a “Nose” of a DC-8 wrapped in plastic.

Sign on nose reads “DC-8. 1st Delivery of 2 Noses 1 Week”. On the corner of sign reads “309 & 310” with drawing of Noses.

Photo in good shape. No major creases.

Back of photo has stamped SM486689.

Approx. 10” x 8”.

I know the DC 8 was not built in Santa Monica. Production and final assembly for the DC 8 was in Long Beach.

Did McDonnell Douglas built sections of the DC8 plane in Santa Monica as these pics indicate? The nose assembly?

McDonnell Douglas was in Santa Monica for over 40 years, building the DC2 and the DC6, did they continue to build the Nose Assembly in Santa Monica?

I am not an expert in Aviation, but I do love these old photos that preserve the history of Southern California.

Please ask question on these, I will answer to the best of my ability.

I believe photos to be an Original, but do not know for sure.
