This is a well-preserved Middle Devonian trilobite,Leonaspis sp., from the Tahajarat Formation, Oufatene in Morocco.
The body of the trilobite is 0.98 inches long if straightened (it is in a defensive or flight position, so the body is partially rolled) and 0.85 inches wide. The entire specimen, matrix and trilobite, measures 2.99 inches long, 2.87 inches wide and 1.77 inches high.
There is a repair running under the right eye and through the right genal and thoracic spines. In the trilobite -collecting world this is not a detriment. Trilobites are found by smashing open rocks and the specimens often get broken as a result. It is rare to find an entire, unbroken trilobite. And if one is found, they usually are sold for a premium amount. Many sellers do not disclose that their fossils have been repaired as the repair is often very well done, and virtually undetectable. I believe in full disclosure.
All of my fossils are authentic and have been legally obtained.
