The Tom Mix Wild West Circus spent the mid-1930s criss-crossing America, capitalizing on the silent-film star’s fame and reviving frontier spectacle at a time when big-top shows were in fierce competition. Engagements in Pennsylvania farming towns like Allentown drew thousands who came to see trick-roping, sharpshooting and Mix’s famous horse Tony II. Print analysis: Glossy gelatin-silver print on single-weight “A KODAK PAPER,” a watermark used c.1935-1950; photographer’s local stamp indicates in-house processing soon after exposure. No later wire or reproduction markings present—strongly indicating a Type 1 original, printed 1937-38.
