Tom Mix Circus Allentown PA Cowboy Rides Mule 1937 - c1950s Photo:
$35.00

A 3.5x6" vintage photo from a large archive of Tom Mix Circus photos acquired from the estate of a collector. This is a unique antique/vintage silver gelatin photograph -- it is not a modern print. Professionally packaged in a rigid mailer for safe delivery.

Photo Overview

A sombrero-topped trick rider leans back as his lively mule rears in a grass lot, framed by scroll-painted wagons lettered “Tom Mix Circus.” The scene was snapped during the show’s 1937 Pennsylvania stand, likely on the Allentown lot, capturing the authentic Wild West atmosphere that traveling cowboy star Tom Mix brought to towns across America.

Movie cowboy legend Tom Mix licensed his name to Sam B. Dill’s circus after his silent-film heyday, taking the big top on the road from 1936-1938 and thrilling crowds with riding and roping feats like the mule act seen here. Mix’s short-lived circus folded just three years later, making surviving images scarce—secure this evocative slice of entertainment history before another collector lassoes it.

Text Present

Front, on wagons: “Tom Mix Circus” (painted twice)
Back, faint diagonal watermark: “A KODAK PAPER” (repeated)
Back, vertical stamp: “ROBERT D. GOOD 1609 TURNER STREET ALLENTOWN, PA.”

Print analysis: Watermark dates the paper to early-mid 1950s; absence of wire or press stamps suggests a private darkroom print from an original 1937 negative, classifying this as a Type 2 late 1950s print.

Condition: Good to very good vintage condition. Please see photos for scans of the surface. Photo may have natural curling or other imperfections from age.
