Vintage Tohono O'odham (Papago) Native American Coiled Olla Basket, Southwest Arizona. Approx. 10"H, 8.5" diameter at its widest, 7.5" diameter across the top, 3.25" diameter across the bottom, and 2.25" diameter at the opening. Quality craftmanship; an extremely beautiful, clean, well-made basket to be treasured for generations. Natural honey patina. Consistent foundation thickness; tightly uniform coil construction from neck to base (indicative of a skilled weaver). Traditional broad shoulder smoothly tapering symmetrically to a narrow base. The start knot in the base is tiny and tightly buried. Small reinforced neck opening. Structurally solid weaving. Natural plant fiber used, has a sweet grass smell when dampened.
