Benoit Peeters (one of 4 ultra-exoerts on Hergé's work (the others being Numa Sadoul, Stephen Seeman and Michael Farr) was granted, in December 1982 what ended up being the very last in-depth interview with Hergé whose health was already compromised. With full access to all Tintin Archives, in addition to the pre-Tintin period (Hergé wrote many books in addition to Tintin, and ended up (as of 1983) selling over 80 million books.Hergé was not only Tintin's creator but also was credited for inventing "la ligne claire" copied since by dozens of illlustrators and graphic artists worldwide.Hergé, who was chronically depressed, sought escape through Tintin and his other characters.He also tried his hand at painting, with very limited success.An inveterate smoker, he was also a sportscar enthusiast and owned several along the lines of Alfa Romeos and the like.Since he was a half orphan, he had somehow deciided that he might be the secret son of the King of Belgium. He died young, rich and unhappy.
