carefully. The hardcovers themselves are structurally sound with tight bindings. The outer slipcase shows typical
vintage shelf wear, including light rubbing along the edges and
corners, but remains sturdy and
holds the books perfectly. Inside of the slipcover shows decoloration and the set has an old book smell due to years in an attic. Internally the pages are clean with no prominent writing
severe staining, or major water damage. This is a fantastic
opportunity to own a beautiful, early US revised printing of Tolkien\'s masterpiece without
breaking the bank on a jacketed set. Please see photos for close up of each book cover and jackets. they may show age for being stored in a hot attic for years. Other than that these books are in fantastic shape. if you know a place that can restores books - this set is well worth having restored.
