Business Information: ADRIAN JOHNSTONE TAXIDERMIST.
History/background
Adrian Johnstone began his hobby of taxidermy whenhe was quite young, around the age of ten or eleven. He first used a bookfromDarlingtonlibrary called Step by Step Taxidermy to learn thebasics. Many of his early subjects were small birds which were found by theroadside whilst out cycling on a weekend, mostly victims of road traffic. Whenhe was eighteen Adrian moved to Harrogate in North Yorkshire to become a fulltime taxidermist,he did a three year apprenticeship with a company calledStarbek Taxidermy, previously known as The World of Nature from Kirby Fleetham.Later he moved back toDarlingtonand opened up a workshop in1984where he prepared and sold taxidermy, and then later a shop on HighNorthgatefrom June 1986 until December 2007.
We still use many of the traditionalways in taxidermy. We use woodwool for making the mannequins, glass eyes for areal-life effect, and natural poses for every animal and bird we work on.
We also freeze dry some smaller specimens. Thisprocess is very well known, and the results are the same as the traditionalmethod of taxidermy. A little more after care is required, spraying yourtaxidermy with an anti-moth spray or using moth balls where your item is kept.Please contact us for more information.
We are a small friendly business, well known, andwith extremely professional results in our work.
Please note.STATEMENT
I have the followingevidence to support the sale of theitem listed.
>Documentary proof that it was not taken illegally from the wild.
By law anyone selling taxidermy must have a log book and must number all the British birds held
in their possession. The details for all the birds must be recorded in this log book, and these details
should include; name and address of supplier; cause/date/location of death; age/sex;
and then eventually the name and address of the buyer.
Every bird that I list on , or indeed every bird that I sell anywhere, has been numbered.
This number can be found in my birds received log book, and each bird has its own individual
log number which is marked underneath the base.
I have been a full time taxidermist since 1981 and always aoffere by the wildlife laws.
A. Johnstone
