Taj Mahal Playing Cards is a series of poker decks inspired by Mughal art, designed by Ritu Bhattacharya for Nova Lux Decks, and printed by the King Star Playing Card Company on premium black core stock with linen finish. These decks were named for the Taj Mahal, a mausoleum for Mumtaz Mahal -- the wife of Emperor Shah Jahan (the fifth Mughal ruler, 1628-1658 CE), which is depicted on the tuck box.
The Night Edition depicts the Taj Mahal under moonlight on the tuck box, with a sky that is alternately bronze foiled and printed black. Each court card features a two-way design of a character inspired by Mughal miniature portraiture, while the card backs were inspired by floral architectural details. All the cards in this edition have silver foil, and the Jokers form a diptych of the Taj Mahal with a bronze background. The Gilded Night Edition is Kickstarter exclusive and has black gilding on the card edges.
