This is an original first edition sales brochure for the American Mercedes, which was produced in New York by the Daimler Manufacturing Co. from 1904 to 1907 under license from Germany'sDaimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft (DMG). This brochure was produced in 1906 in New York City for distribution in the US. However, very few are believed to have been printed and even fewer exist today. In 1961, Mercedes-Benz Sales Inc., the US distributor for Mercedes-Benz products at the time, reprinted this brochure and claimed that the lone surviving original was in a museum in Pennsylvania. Since then, only one other original 1906 edition has surfaced, until now. Therefore we believe this to be one of three existing copies of the original 1906 American Mercedes brochure. It comes from the personal collection of a longtime automotive literature dealer and collector, who obtained it decades ago and is now allowing us to sell it on his behalf. Included with the 1906 brochure is the 1961 reprint (shown alongside the original for comparison) and pamplet from Mercedes-Benz Sales Inc. explaining the item's history.
Condition: As to be expected with an item that is 119 years old, there is some minor wear on the outside cover of this hardbound brochure, which we have shown in the photos. All pages are intact, including the glued illustration cards throughout the catalog. Overall, the condition is outstanding for this piece's age.
