Super Rare High Grade Forbud Books 1966 Batfag and Sparrow by Grayson Smith For Sale

This is for an original exceedingly rare 1966 issue ofBatfag and Sparrow which was written and illustrated by Grayson Smith. This 45page 5 1/4 x 7 1/8 comic booklet was published by Forbud Books Inc. which wason 42nd street in New York. This was one of five satirical books whichwere at least advertised to be published by the company with the others being Internistby Dr. S. Ex, Spirit of Seventy Sex, What’s My Rating Mr Neilson and How ToSexceed in Business. Judging by the material in this book along with the othertitles available, these were probably sold in adult book stores in the TimesSquare area during its seedier times. This is probably one of the firstunderground comics ever done along with being one of the first to incorporate a“gay” crime fighting team, light years ahead of the Ambiguously Gay Duo whowould appear on SNL in the years to come. All of the above titles by Forbudfeatured artists whose main work would appear in either Cracked or Madmagazines. This book, written and illustrated by Grayson Smith, is sought to bean alias for Don “Duck” Edwing who was a gag cartoonist at MAD magazine andwould work with Don Martin until taking over Spy vs Spy in 1987. Itsinteresting that this book would come out the same time the original televisionshow “Batman” would come out in 1966. I would be willing to bet that the threatof a lawsuit probably was the ruin of this book, along with the second issueadvertised, Batfag vs King Cohen, which would never see the light of day. Inthe spirit of MAD magazine you can already imagine what the second issue wouldbe about. This book features Batfag going after Jack the Snipper, who wants tocut off all mens “doozies” so he will be the only man with a doozie so lusciouswomen like Zsa Zsa, Jayne, Sophia and Gina would come crawling at his feet. Oneof the interesting things in the comic is that Batfags chest emblem constantlychanges from things like “Kiss me Baby” and “Dr Casey’s a Quack” to a swastika and“Pink Beret”. An interesting book that you can take as a tribute to LGBTQ orjust total nonsense. Tough to tell what they were trying to say in 1966. Eitherway, this is an unbelievably rare book in great condition with just a few rubson the front cover along with having nice tight staples, great color and anunmarked interior with great paper quality. Don’t wait for another high endissue to ever become available as these were probably destroyed in 1966 in lieuof facing a lawsuit.
