Sue Lyon won the Golden Globe for Most Promising Newcomer for her performance in Lolita, chosen by Kubrick from over 800 hopefuls. She followed it with strong roles in John Huston\'s The Night of the Iguana (1964) opposite Richard Burton and John Ford\'s 7 Women (1966), but her career never again reached the heights of her debut. Her personal life drew tabloid attention, including a marriage to a prison inmate in the 1970s, and by the 1980s she had retired from acting entirely, living quietly in Los Angeles and rarely granting interviews or signing autographs. Lyon passed away in December 2019 at age 73, and interest in her signed material has grown steadily since, particularly images from Lolita, the role that defined both her career and a landmark moment in American cinema.
