Straight from the Shoulder RNC 1956 Eisenhower Convention Knowland Soil Bank:
$37.49

This is the January 1956 issue of Straight from the Shoulder, Volume 3, Number 1, published by the Republican National Committee at 1625 Eye Street, Northwest, Washington, D.C. The publication is a campaign document. It contains an article by Senate Minority Leader William F. Knowland analyzing President Eisenhower’s State of the Union address and his nine-point agricultural program. That program includes the Soil Bank initiative, designed to remove twenty-five million acres of cropland from production. The issue also includes a Fact Sheet for The Precinct Worker with a chart on the purchasing power of the dollar, stating that it fell to fifty-two cents under Democratic administrations and stabilized at fifty-nine cents under Eisenhower’s economic policies. The issue provides preview coverage of the 26th Republican National Convention, scheduled for August 20 at the Cow Palace in San Francisco. This was the first Republican national convention held in the Far West. The coverage discusses anticipated delegate selection processes, television coverage plans, and historical context, including reference to the first Republican convention of 1856, which nominated John C. Frémont. Additional contents include political cartoons critical of Democratic positions, analysis of labor issues under Secretary James P. Mitchell, civil rights discussions, and references to Senator Barry Goldwater. The design uses black text with teal titles and photographic portraits of Eisenhower. The issue carries the official non-profit organization postal permit from Washington, D.C. It documents Cold War-era political communication and internal party mobilization efforts.
