Slocum
• Background: Born in Herkimer County, New York, in 1843, Slocum served as a private in the 1st Minnesota Cavalry during the Civil
War.
• Career: He apprenticed under H. S. Coon and later ran a photography studio in Austin, Minnesota. His brother, J. E. Slocum, was also a photographer in the same area.
• Legacy: He passed away in 1910 and is buried at the lowa Veterans Home
Cemetery.
