StWilliamHoly Medal

on 24" Chain

Greatnew 7/8"nickel silver medal from Italy of St William.

There actually are quite a few saints named William, and this medal really doesn't give any good clues on which Saint William is pictured, so after a bit of research I narrowed it down to two: it is either St William of Rochester or St William of Vercelli. I made prayer cards for each of these saints and you will get both of them with this medal.

Medal comes on a 24" stainless steel chain which is continuous, that is, it has no clasp.Fits over most size heads. This is a great length for the guys. Comes gift boxed and with the two different St William prayer cards plus a gift bag and tissue paper. (We also include a few other prayer cards of our choice so if you have a favorite saint or devotion let me know and I'll include that card(s) if I have it - or I'll make it for you!)

St William of Vercelli was a 12th century Italian Catholic hermit and abbot who founded the Williamites religious order. It was said that he had a St Francis-like affinity for animals. There is a neat legend of him and a wolf: A wolf killed and ate the donkey the abbot used for carting loads and doing other work around the monastery. St William told the wolf that he would have to do the donkey's work from now on, and the wolf became immediately tame, following the abbot around and pulling a cart for him!

St William of Rochester (or Perth) was a 12th century Scottish baker who kept every 10th loaf of bread for the poor. He attended Mass daily and one day found an abandoned child on the church steps and adopted him. Years later he took the boy with him on pilgrimage to visit holy places and near Rochester he was robbed and killed - probably by his adopted son. A madwoman found the body and was cured and other miracles soon started to happen due to his intercession, so the people declared him a saint, and a martyr since he died while on pilgrimage. He is the patron saint of adoptions and adopted children.
