The upper bar is shaped like a stylized image of the Ukrainian SSR flag (a red and azure banner) featuring a pentagonal insert and the inscription "КИЇВ" (Kyiv). The lower pendant is shaped like a chestnut leaf—a traditional symbol of Kyiv.
