The Brest Fortress, designated \"Hero Fortress\" on May 8, 1965, is a legendary memorial complex and a symbol of the unprecedented courage of Soviet soldiers who, in the first days of the Great Patriotic War (from June 22, 1941), held a heroic defense despite complete encirclement and fought to the last, offering powerful resistance to the Nazi invaders. It became the first serious obstacle for the Wehrmacht, where Soviet soldiers set an example of perseverance by leaving the inscription, \"I am dying, but I will not surrender!\"
