An attractive and unusual "Handy Volume Scott", Complete 31-volume miniature collection of the works of Sir Walter Scott, published in 1877 and housed in its original fitted wooden bookcase.The collection consists of 24 volumes of novels and 7 volumes of Poetical works. Several volumes contain more than one work, which explains why some familiar Scott titles do not appear as separately titled volumes. Among these are: A LEGEND OF MONTROSE, which also contains The Black Dwarf - THE BETROTHED, which also contains Chronicles of the Canongate and The Highland Widow. - THE TALISMAN, which also contains The Two Drovers, My Aunt Margaret's Mirror, The Tapestried Chamber, and Death of the Laird's Jock - THE SURGEON'S DAUGHTER, which also contains Castle Dangerous.The books retain considerable charm as a complete Victorian miniature library. The original bookcase is an especially appealing feature and displays the volumes beautifully.Each volume has an old handwritten owner's name and the date 1898 on the pastedown since that time.This is a wonderful decorative library set as well as an interesting collection for a Sir Walter Scott collector, bibliophile, or collector of Victorian miniature books.Provenance: We purchased this set during 1988 in Hay-On-Wye, Wales, the famous "town of old books".
