Antique c1890s Victorian Trade CardsComplete Set of 5Three Little Pigs themed cardsDr. King\'s New Discovery Advertising
A complete set of vintage 1890s \"Three Little Pigs\" advertising trade cards distributed by H.E. Bucklen & Co of Chicago.Bucklen was a manufacturer and retailer of a variety of different medicinal products, one of their most recognized brands being \"Dr. King\'s New Discovery\" which was intended to treat colds, cough, and consumption (tuberculosis). Many of their products, including this one, were medical quackery.
These trade cards tell the story of the \"Three Little Pigs\" over the course of 5 panels. Each illustrated card/panel also features advertising for the Bucklen products within the story. This set would have been originally distributed as a fold-out panel. Most often, collectors separated the panel into 5 individual cards. As a result, it is quite rare to find the full set of 5 panels. The first 2 panels are separated...but the final 3 are still attached. Each panel features advertising text for Bucklen on the reverse - each panel features this text in a different language.
SIZE:The trade cards measure approximately 5 3/4\" by 8 3/8\"
CONDITION:Very good condition for their age. No writing, no pin holes, no folds. The cards do have some general corner and edge wear as would be expected with age and some normal handling in their day. The \"This Little Pig Went to Market\" card does have some mild moisture damage and paper residue to the upper back corner - it looks like it was set on a wet publication at one point and pulled up the paper from the other publication. The set will ship secured via USPS Ground Advantage.Shipping and handling for this listing is FREE.
