Everything is History is honored to present a piece of true North Carolina heritage. This set of four (4) handcrafted Aunt Edna’s Mayberry Button Uppers comes with a remarkable piece of provenance: an original, typewritten personal letter from the maker himself, Robert L. Atkins.
The Maker:
Robert Atkins (1928–2022) was a legendary figure in Mount Airy, NC—the real-life inspiration for Mayberry. He created every one of these tools by hand. As noted in the included letter, he used birch for the handles and stainless steel welding rods for the blades.
What’s Included:
(4) Handcrafted Button Uppers: Each with its original \"Aunt Edna’s\" hanging tag.
Original Typed Letter: Dated October 6, 2020. It’s a fascinating \"time capsule\" piece where Mr. Atkins discusses the Andy Griffith Play House, wholesale pricing, and the \"Virus time.\"
About the Item:
Originally designed as a functional aid for those with arthritis or finger numbness, these have become highly sought-after pieces of Mayberry Ephemera since Mr. Atkins’ passing in 2022. They represent the industrious, handcrafted spirit of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
