Second & Third Street Passenger Rail Stock Philly 1859 1922 1923 Early Horsecar:
$65.00

Offered is a rare group of three original stock certificates from the historic Second & Third Street Passenger Railway Company of Philadelphia, dating from 1859, 1922, and 1923.

These certificates represent over 60 years of urban transit history—from the early horse-drawn street railway era through the later electrified streetcar period.

History: The company was part of Philadelphia’s earliest street railway system, with roots in the first horsecar lines established around 1858.

These early lines evolved from even earlier horse-drawn omnibus services dating to 1831, which ran along routes including Second Street

By the late 19th century, the system had grown substantially, operating dozens of miles of track and transporting millions of passengers

The 1859 certificate represents the formative years of urban mass transit in the United States, making it especially desirable to collectors

Later certificates (1920s) reflect the transition period of street railways into modern electric transit systems

CONDITION: These come from my father’s collection of antique stocks and bonds. Since I am not a professional, please see photos and ask questions. The 3 show age related toning, foxing, edge wear/ folds/tears, cancellation marks/holes, beautiful vignettes, ornate borders and period typography. The 1922 & 1923 are printed by Security Bank Note Philadelphia.

Attractive for collectors of:

*Railroad / street railway memorabilia

*Philadelphia history

*Early transportation and industrialization

Own a tangible piece of Philadelphia’s earliest transit history—spanning from the horsecar era of 1859 to the streetcar age of the 1920s. A scarce and visually striking trio that bridges generations of urban transportation, making it a standout addition to any serious scripophily or railroad collection.
