Before carving, the natural wood is given several years to dry. The whole figurine is then hand carved from solid natural wood. It is hand painted with water-based acrylics by a professional artist, who signs the base.

ABOUT THIS SANTA
The coat takes the longest to paint. Soft gold shading builds the folds, so the wood looks like heavy wool. White snowflakes drift between them, and a fine white vine of tiny leaves winds along the waist, cuffs, hem and front opening. Each red mitten carries its own white snowflake rosette. Painting that detail on a long, curved coat takes days of patient brushwork. The wreath is carved in low relief, with small blue, red and yellow ornaments among the green and two long ribbons falling from the bow. White paint, dry-brushed over the carved texture, frosts his hat and hem, so the brown wood shows through like snowy fur. At 11 inches he stands tall on a mantel, a console table or an entryway table, where the wreath says welcome. A winter Santa holding out his wreath and golden bow.
