Original vintage black-and-white wedding photograph made in San Diego, California, by the photographic partnership of Milt Young and Bob Richardson. The newly married couple is posed inside a church before the altar, with a large cross directly behind them, tall altar candles, candelabra, floral arrangements, and numerous potted palms and plants forming the background. The bride wears a full-length white wedding gown with short sleeves, floral or appliqué decoration, and a shoulder-length veil with headpiece; the groom wears a double-breasted suit with dark tie, white pocket square, and boutonnière.
The print is especially well identified by the photographers’ information. The lower front margin is printed, “A Milt Young and Bob Richardson Photo.” The reverse carries their full commercial stamp: “PHOTOGRAPHY on LAND, AIR or SEA / 869 STATE ST., SAN DIEGO / Phone MILT YOUNG or BOB RICHARDSON / F-3408,” followed by “FOR REORDER ASK FOR NUMBER” and a handwritten blue reorder number that appears to be “23.” The unusually broad “Land, Air or Sea” wording suggests a general-purpose San Diego photographic service rather than a studio devoted solely to portraiture.
The photograph dates approximately to the late 1940s or very early 1950s, with circa 1950 a reasonable working date.
