A RARE SIGNED PHOTO OF FEMALE IMPERSONATOR MERVYN ROLANDO - DATED 1947
The autograph is on the reverse of the photo.
Mervyn appeared in many variety shows and panto from the 1920s to the 1960s. Just a few were \'Take Cover\' at the Eden Theatre, \'Pioneers on Parade\' 1946/47 - playing The Versatile Vicar, \'We Were In The Forces\' - with a cast of artistes discharged from the forces - with Vic Silver and Alan Haynes, many appearances as one of the ugly sisters in Cinderella pantomime. He also presented a strange act called La Florette\'s Les Poupees Fantastiques (The Extraordinary Mechanical Dancers). He turned his hand to magic and telepathy in the 1960s and I believe appeared in 2 Royal Command Performances. He was reported to be highly entertaining in his many roles and his name is in many adverts for shows in \'The Stage\' newspaper throughout his long career.
He passed away on 23rd April 1971 and in his \'In Memoriam\' notice in the Stage Theatre Paper it said the following: The song is ended. The curtain falls. There comes a time. When we must say goodbye. Sadly missed.
The photo is on thin card - like a postcard but plain backed. It measures 5.25 by 3.25 inches approximately. It is in good condition with a few blemishes which can mainly be seen if held at an angle. It has remnants of photo corners stuck to its corners so it seems to have been taken out of an album. I\'ve shown the photo at an angle and the corners on the listing as best I can, so you can see what you are getting.
Please see the photos on the listing for content and condition.
