Beautiful vintage Ser Jacopo R1, handmade in Pesaro, Italy. The pipe is stamped Ser Jacopo / Per Aspera Ad Astra / Fatta a Mano / In Italia / R1 and retains its distinctive coral-dot stem.
This is an unusual large bent Ser Jacopo design combining a smooth briar bowl with a partially rusticated shank, briar extension/accent and sweeping black stem. The smooth portion displays attractive vertical flame grain with areas of birdseye and plenty of natural character.
The pipe has been thoroughly cleaned and restored bringing out the natural grain while preserving the original factory rustication and nomenclature. The stem was cleaned and polished and the chamber was taken back to briar and cleaned from years of built up unmanaged cake and given a fresh charcoal bowl coating.
IMPORTANT CHAMBER CONDITION: During restoration and removal of the existing cake, a pre-existing area of deterioration along a natural briar vein was exposed within the chamber wall. A localized portion of the softer briar in this area has deteriorated from prior use. This condition was present when I acquired the pipe and was not caused during restoration.
The affected area is localized to the interior chamber wall and does not extend through the bowl. There is no corresponding exterior breakthrough. I have intentionally included multiple close-up photographs of the chamber under direct lighting so prospective buyers can clearly evaluate the area for themselves.
The exterior of the bowl remains intact. As expected of a vintage smoked estate pipe, there are signs of previous use and minor age-related imperfections. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they are an important part of the condition description.
