An original 8x10" vintage photo (NOT a modern reprint) from a large collection of hundreds of original movie photos acquired from a film business estate. Photo is from a a working collection used in a theater at one time for display.
Photo Overview
Original 8x10 black and white movie still of Rod Taylor as Johnny Cassidy in the 1965 MGM drama Young Cassidy, the film biography of Irish playwright Sean O\'Casey. Taylor stands in a torn, sweat-stained undershirt in a doorway as a mustached officer in a beret and trench coat, flashlight in hand, holds out a revolver toward him. A squad of armed, beret-wearing men with submachine guns crowds the narrow stairway behind them, capturing the tension of revolutionary-era Dublin.
The still carries the production code YC-53 on the front. This copy was distributed in the Netherlands and bears the embossed seal of the Dutch national film censorship board, as well as a Dutch film distributor stamp on the back. Young Cassidy was begun by legendary director John Ford and completed by Jack Cardiff, and co-starred Julie Christie, Maggie Smith, Flora Robson, Michael Redgrave and Edith Evans.
Historical Notes
Young Cassidy was adapted from Sean O\'Casey\'s autobiographical writings and shot on location in Dublin in 1964. John Ford began directing but fell ill after about two weeks, and cinematographer-turned-director Jack Cardiff completed the picture, though it was still promoted as a John Ford film. O\'Casey himself died in September 1964, shortly before the film\'s 1965 release. For Rod Taylor, the Australian-born star of The Time Machine and Hitchcock\'s The Birds, the role was one of his most personal, and he later called it a favorite. Julie Christie won the Academy Award for Best Actress that same year for Darling, and Maggie Smith went on to a celebrated career spanning more than five decades. Taylor continued working steadily in films and television, making a memorable final appearance as Winston Churchill in Quentin Tarantino\'s Inglourious Basterds in 2009, before his death in 2015.

Print analysis
This is an original Type 1 silver gelatin movie still printed at the time of the film\'s 1965 release. The YC-53 production code on the front is the standard MGM still numbering format for Young Cassidy. The embossed seal of the Dutch film censorship board and the Amsterdam distributor stamp on the back confirm it was circulated as an official publicity still for the film\'s Netherlands release. The glossy photographic surface shows continuous tone with no halftone dot pattern.

In good to excellent vintage condition. Please see scans of the image we have provided for the most accurate and complete state of the photo. Some of the photos in this collection have tiny holes from staples in some of the corners from being displayed as part of a working set at a theater, so please check images.
